Europe's southernmost ski resort
According to several reference sources, Sierra Nevada is the southernmost ski resort on the continent. It sits in the massif of the same name, in the Penibética range, with a resort village at about 2,100 m and peaks close to 3,400 m.
The contrast is its first asset: you ski in the morning, then head down to a historic city for the afternoon. The ski area covers more than 100 km of pistes, with beginner zones, a snowpark, ski touring and cross-country skiing.
Season and logistics
The ski season generally begins in late November and ends in early May, depending on snow. Exact dates change from year to year, so we confirm them with the resort before fixing your date.
The resort is 40 to 50 minutes by road from Granada. For a group, we arrange coach transfers, either there and back in one day or with a night on site. Participants who do not ski have their place too, since the resort offers separate activities for non-skiers.
Lessons, slopes and equipment
The ski schools are based in Pradollano, offering group lessons and introductory courses for beginners. The lift pass and equipment hire are charged on top of lessons. For a team with mixed levels, plan several ability groups and a regrouping at the end of the day.
The snowpark and children's zones let younger and more adventurous participants try other forms of gliding on snow.
Snow activities without skis
Snowshoeing, sledging and walks through the forest around the resort let non-skiers enjoy the snow. Operators run snowshoe outings from Pradollano. Sledging is available in the Borreguiles sector, reached by cable car.
Evenings: mountain or city
Evenings are spent in the resort village of Pradollano or, for a more urban feel, back in Granada, under an hour away. Returning to the city lets the evening continue with a tapas walk in the centre. In Granada, a tapa traditionally comes with each drink ordered.
